Hair Band History (August 26th)

August 1988: With their self-titled debut album in US record stores, the first single from Femme Fatale, "Waiting For The Big One", was getting the attention of American rock radio and the music video in medium rotation on MTV.

August 26, 1986: A few months after the release of their debut album "Look What The Cat Dragged In" and first single "Cry Tough", Poison were touring with Loudness as the opening act. Still fairly unknown, "Talk Dirty To Me" wouldn't be released for another six months.

August 26, 1988: The short-lived Vinnie Vincent Invasion performed their final concert together in Anaheim, California. Turmoil in the band led to the exit of singer Mark Slaughter and bassist Dana Strum who went on to form Slaughter.

August 26, 1989: With massive airplay on MTV, Winger was hot and their record label placed an ad with some of the lyrics from "Poison Angel" off their debut album that was also on the flipside of the "Seventeen" single. Billboard Magazine ad

August 1989: The Cult released "Edie (Ciao Baby)" as the second single from the album "Sonic Temple". Lead singer Ian Astbury had taken an interest in artist Andy Warhol, especially Edie Sedgwick who was featured in several Warhol films. Late August 1983: Canadian rockers Helix started receiving radio airplay in North America for the single "Heavy Metal Love" from their major label debut "No Rest For The Wicked", released in May that year.

August 1989: The second single from Skid Row's debut album, "18 And Life", was a smash at American radio, along with the music video on MTV, and that got the upstart band the cover of Hit Parader Magazine. The song would reach the Top 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 a month later.
