Hair Band History (June 14th)

June 1988: Hit Parader Magazine in the US had features on Dokken and Vinnie Vincent Invasion... "they've garnered an ever-increasing legion of supporters who feel that Dokken may well be the next big 'breakthrough band' on the metal scene" (Dokken had third billing on The "Monsters Of Rock" 23-city summer stadium tour, preceding Scorpions and Van Halen and following Metallica) and Vinnie Vincent Invasion was having success with their second album "All Systems Go"... "I know it sounds very pompous if I say I'm not surprised, but the truth is I'm not." Sadly, both bands would split up soon after, Dokken less than a year later and Vinnie Vincent Invasion just two months after this issue of Hit Parader hit newsstands. 😒

June 1988: Ahead of the release of their fourth studio album "In God We Trust", Stryper issued lead single "Always There For You". With a more pop-oriented sound and glam metal look, the music video was a big hit on MTV in the US. Release information source: Rock magazine ad; music video added at MTV the week of June 25, 1988.

June 14, 1989: At their peak of popularity, White Lion and Vixen played Salisbury, Maryland as openers for the "Prince Of Darkness" Ozzy Osbourne.

Happy Birthday to former Queensrÿche guitarist Chris DeGarmo (June 14, 1963).

June 1989: After Steve Vai left the David Lee Roth band to join Whitesnake, he was briefly replaced by Rocket Ritchotte, who had played with Cher and others, before DLR changed direction and went with Jason Becker for the next album "A Little Ain't Enough". Ritchotte would return to play with Roth in 1993-94.

June 1987: Bassist Rudy Sarzo has played with Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake and Quiet Riot, but his home has always been with the latter and while still touring with Whitesnake, it was annnounced that Sarzo would be returning to QR to replace his successor, Chuck Wright. Rudy rejoined Quiet Riot again in 2021.

June 14, 1989: Before joining Skid Row and Ozzy Osbourne's band, singer Sebastian Bach and guitarist Zakk Wylde teamed up at the wedding reception for rock photographer Mark Weiss to jam on Led Zeppelin classic "Rock & Roll" at the Molly Pitcher Hotel in Red Bank, New Jersey. Weiss' book "The Decade That Rocked" released in 2020 is a must-have.
