Hair Band History (March 17th)

March 1985: Europe released the original version of "Rock The Night" as a single in Sweden and parts of Europe. Already stars in their home country, the band was featured in the Swedish film "On The Loose", where singer Joey Tempest sparks the jealousy of the main character Peter who learns his girlfriend Nina had a relationship with Joey many years earlier. At the Europe concert, Peter gets drunk and goes berserk before the safety officer Frasse makes Peter realize he should pull himself together and go sort things out with Nina 🤗

 

March 17, 1984: Van Halen's "1984" peaked at No. 2 on the US Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart. At any other time in music history it would have most likely reached No. 1, but that year it was held out by the best-selling album of all time, Michael Jackson's "Thriller".

March 17, 1984: With their new album "Love At First Sting" released in North America in late February, Scorpions made their debut on the US Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart at No. 75. It spent 63 weeks on the chart, peaking in June that year at No. 6.

March 17, 1984: KISS played their final concert with guitarist Vinnie Vincent as they wrapped up the "Lick It Up" Tour in Evansville, Indiana. Vinnie had actually been fired after the European tour, but there wasn't enough time to find a replacement.

"Big Hits And Nasty Cuts: The Best Of Twisted Sister" was issued on CD in 1992 with only songs from their first three albums. All tracks from "Come Out And Play" and "Love Is For Suckers" were omitted, except outside of the US.

March 17, 1989: White Lion's "When The Children Cry" was a Top 5 smash in America a month earlier and now the single was available in the UK. Release information source: Kerrang! ad - March 18, 1989.

Happy Birthday to original L.A. Guns singer and drummer Paul Mars Black (March 17, 1958). Paul was with the band from 1985-87 and co-wrote much of their debut album.

March 17, 1990: L.A. Guns brought the "Cocked & Loaded" Tour to Sneakers in San Antonio, Texas with special guests Shark Island. Review: Kerrang! - April '90

March 17, 1998: Van Halen released their 11th studio album "Van Halen III" in North America, their only LP with Extreme lead vocalist Gary Cherone and the last with original bassist Michael Anthony. 14 years would pass before the next VH album.
