January 27, 1992: Firehouse won "Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock New Artist" at the American Music Awards, beating out Nirvana and Alice In Chains. Hair bands hanging on for the win before the sea change.

January 27, 1992: Van Halen won the American Music Award for "Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Album" with "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge", beating out Guns N' Roses’ "Use Your Illusion I" and Metallica’s Black Album.
