Hair Band History (August 21st)

August 21, 1990: After replacing long-time producer Beau Hill with Desmond Child, RATT released their fifth studio album "Detonator" in North America (one week later in the UK) featuring Top 20 US rock hit "Lovin' You's A Dirty Job" and power ballad, "Givin' Yourself Away". Jon Bon Jovi appeared as a guest background vocalist on "Heads I Win, Tails You Lose".

August 1990: Stryper released their fifth studio album "Against The Law". Gone were the yellow and black spandex outfits and bold evangelical lyrics, replaced with leather outfits and lyrics more focused on rock n' roll and relationships.

August 21, 1987: San Francisco-based hard rockers Jetboy went to SoCal for a show at Chuck Landis' Country Club in Reseda, California. Note the ad reads "Look for Jetboy's debut album due out soon!" It would actually be another year before "Feel The Shake" would hit record stores (October '88).

August 21, 1990: Jetboy released their second studio album "Damned Nation" in North America featuring single "Evil". They disbanded two years later, but returned in 1998. Release date source: CMJ New Music Report - August 21, 1990.

August 1989: On tour with FM in the UK, New Jersey hard rockers Saraya released their big US rock hit "Love Has Taken It's Toll" as a single across the pond. Kerrang! ad - August 19, 1989

August 1986: Canadian rockers Triumph released their eighth studio album "The Sport Of Kings" featuring their most successful single "Somebody's Out There" (reached number 27 on the US Billboard Hot 100).

August 1985: Looking all bad ass, Mötley Crüe's Vince Neil was on the cover of Hit Parader Magazine. Inside were articles on bands you really cared about... Van Halen, RATT, Scorpions, Twisted Sister and more.

August 1989: "Open Air And Say...Ahh", Bon Jovi were a worldwide sensation and playing for massive crowds, including headlining the Moscow Peace Festival in front of 140,000 people, as well as the Milton Keynes Bowl in Buckinghamshire, England, that was packed with 65,000 screaming fans and got Jon Bon Jovi the cover of Kerrang!
