May 1987: Ahead of the release of their new album "Girls, Girls, Girls", Metal Edge put out "The Official Mötley Crüe Magazine", featuring 84 pages of interviews, behind the scenes, "25 Outrageous Pinups!" and "2 New Giant Color Posters!!!"

May 6, 1990: Great White and Damn Yankees performed on MTV Unplugged, the first Unplugged performance that truly rocked and helped pave the way for many hard rock groups to follow.

May 6, 1989: Great White's fourth studio album "...Twice Shy", featuring smash hit "Once Bitten Twice Shy" and power ballad "The Angel Song", debuted at No. 99 on the US Billboard Top Pop Albums chart. By July it would rise into the Top 10.

May 1985: Canadian hard rockers Helix released "Deep Cuts The Knife" in North America as the lead single from their forthcoming album "Long Way To Heaven" (August 27, 1985 in the UK). May 6, 1989: After winning the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in February, Living Colour's "Cult Of Personality" peaked at No. 13 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The band were also big winners at the '89 MTV Video Music Awards.

May 6, 1991: Mr. Big released psychedelic rock track "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind" in the UK as the second single from the album "Lean into It". The song was written by guitarist Paul Gilbert about a girl who is haunted by her past. Release date source: Kerrang! - May 4, 1991 + ad - May 11, 1991.

Featuring Top 15 rock hit "All The Way From Memphis", supergroup Contraband [Michael Schenker (MSG) Tracii Guns (L.A. Guns) Share Pedersen (Vixen) Bobby Blotzer (RATT) and Richard Black (Shark Island)] released their only album in 1991.

May 1991: Written by Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, Desmond Child and Diane Warren, Alice Cooper guitarist Kane Roberts released "Does Anybody Really Fall In Love Anymore?" as the second single from his second solo album "Saints And Sinners". May 6, 1992: Tesla's "Psychotic Supper" Tour rolled into Springfield, Massachusetts with special guest Firehouse. The tour was 188 shows in 13 countries.

May 6, 1977: Written and recorded in the aftermath of the collapse of Deep Purple, David Coverdale released his first solo LP "White Snake" in the UK. He would use the album title as the name of his future band, first known as "David Coverdale's Whitesnake" and soon afterwards shortened to Whitesnake. May 1984: An American rock magazine "printed the terrible tale of Twisted Sister who were reportedly dumped from the Van Halen tour, because David Lee Roth wouldn't have another blond in the vicinity! Only the hairdressers know the truth..." -Kerrang! After "Stay Hungry" was released in June '84, Twisted Sister toured with DIO and Iron Maiden.
