Hair Band History (December 27th)
December 1983: Quiet Riot released "Metal Health (Bang Your Head)" in North America as the second single from their debut album, that became a little more popular in February 1984 when Kevin Bacon cranked it up in the film "Footloose". Release information source: Debuted Billboard Hot 100 on January 7, 1984.
December 27, 1989: Bon Jovi played NEC Arena in Birmingham, England. They opened with "Lay Your Hands On Me" and only played two songs from their debut album, "Runaway" and "Get Ready", skipping 7800° Fahrenheit entirely.
December 27, 1990: Touring Europe with Scorpions and Doro, Winger played Frankfurt, one of several Christmas festivals in Germany. The single "Miles Away" from Winger had just been released in Europe. Release information source: Music & Media Magazine ad - December 15, 1990.
December 27, 1987: With Cinderella's Fred Coury filling in for drummer Steven Adler, Guns N' Roses played the second of four nights at Perkins Place in Pasadena, California. "Appetite For Destruction" ended the year at No. 52 on the last US Billboard Top Pop Albums chart of 1987.
December 27, 1985: Nearing the end of the "World Infestation" Tour, RATT returned home to Southern California for a show with Bon Jovi at The Forum in Inglewood.
Happy Birthday to King's X drummer Jerry Gaskill (December 27, 1957).
December 27, 1986: After David Lee Roth's exit, the new Van Halen with Sammy Hagar now fronting the band, was a massive success in the US, with their first album together "5150", reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart in April that year, something that never happened with DLR. Granted, "1984" was stuck at No. 2 behind Michael Jackson's "Thriller"... No other act could surpass that juggernaut.
December 27, 1989: Skid Row's Sebastian Bach was charged with "assault, assault and battery and mayhem" at a show in Springfield, Massachusetts after someone threw a plastic bottle that hit the singer and led to Bach jumping into the crowd 😯
