August 12, 1989: The two-day "Moscow Music Peace Festival" began in the former USSR, the first time hard rock acts from abroad were granted permission to play there. Skid Row, Cinderella, Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne and Scorpions all performed.

August 12, 1988: KISS‬ performed the first of two shows at the Ritz nightclub in New York City, a warm up for the band's European "Crazy Nights" Tour. One of the shows was simulcast on local rock radio station WNEW.

August 12, 1989: Great White's “Once Bitten Twice Shy” peaked at No. 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The Ian Hunter cover was the band's biggest hit, spending nearly three months on the chart.

August 12, 1989: Alice Cooper's 11th studio album "Trash" debuted at No. 161 on the US Billboard Top Pop Albums chart. Powered by Top 10 hit single "Poison", the LP would reach the Top 20 in November that year.

August 12, 1986: Judas Priest's "Fuel For Life" Tour trucked on through the Midwestern US with special guests Krokus, stopping in Indianapolis for a show at Market Square Arena.

August 12, 1991: Metallica released their fifth studio album "Metallica" (aka the "Black Album") worldwide. Featuring singles "Enter Sandman", "The Unforgiven" and "Nothing Else Matters", the band gained more fans than anyone could have imagined. Release date source: Billboard Magazine - August 3, 1991.

August 1990: Along with Whitesnake and Poison, Aerosmith were set to play the "Monsters Of Rock" Festival at Castle Donington on the 18th and the latest issue of the Kerrang! Magazine featured guitarist Joe Perry on the cover, plus the new album from Winger, "In The Heart Of The Young", was now available in the UK.
