January 23, 1990: Slaughter released their debut album "Stick It To Ya" in North America featuring singles "Up All Night", "Fly To The Angels" and "Spend My Life". It was nominated for "Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Album" at the 1991 American Music Awards. Release information source: [US] Billboard Magazine review - January 27, 1990.

January 23, 1991: It was the best night of the 10 day "Rock In Rio II" Festival in Rio de Janeiro with headliners Guns N' Roses, preceded by Judas Priest and Queensrÿche.

Bon Jovi released their debut album in January 1984. The previous year, the band's lead guitarist was Jon Bon Jovi's childhood friend Dave Sabo, who later formed Skid Row. He was replaced by Richie Sambora before the recording of Bon Jovi's first LP.

January 23, 1984: Scorpions launched the "Love At First Sting" Tour in Birmingham, England. North American shows began in mid-March with Bon Jovi opening. Many of the dates were recorded and released as "World Wide Live" in 1985.

January 23, 1988: David Lee Roth's "Just Like Paradise", the first single from the album "Skyscaper", hit No. 1 on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart. It would later peak at No. 6 on the Hot 100.

Remembering Helix drummer Greg "Fritz" Hinz who would have celebrated a birthday today (January 23, 1960). Fritz died in 2024. R.I.P.

January 23, 1988: Poison were on the cover of Blast! Magazine with the headline "Poison's Real Story Concludes!" Sounds ominous, but (spoiler alert) it has a happy ending.

January 23, 1993: Def Leppard's Joe Elliott was on the cover of Kerrang!, "No One Likes Us And We Don't Care!" The '90s were a strange time for the band, but they were still Def Leppard... "We can do this for as long as we want."
